Finished Site Visit 2: Geelong Carousel

Below is two photos i have taken of the Carousel at Geelong's Waterfront. The architect on this project was McGlashan Everist with the building being constructed by Wycombe Construction, the same group who is working on the latest Deakin University project.

I also managed to find an excerpt on the design of the building, courtesy of geelongaustralia.com.au which outlines the different facets involved in this piece of construction:

"The steel frame of the building comprises six umbrella forms of 12x12 meters in a 3x2 array. The steel structure is exposed and utilises a range of hollow sections. The cross-linked main arms are fabricated box sections sculpted to reflect roof loads with minimal use of material. The diagonal arrangement of the mainframes and the combined arching effect develops an inherently stiff structure, which eliminates the need for diagonal bracing in roof or walls."
